Have you noticed that shadows of the upper lip are back in fashion?

I had noticed and now have decided to share mustaches with the blog world before anyone jumps on the bandwagon!! I’m quite keen on the Fu Manchu!!

Chevron
A thick and wide mustache, usually worn long to cover the top border of the upper lip.

chevron mustache

Dali
A narrow mustache with long points bent or curved steeply upward. Named for artist Salvador Dali.

dali mustache

English
A narrow divided mustache that begins at the middle of the upper lip, with long whiskers pulled to either side of the center. The areas beyond the corners of the mouth are typically shaved.

english mustache

Fu manchu
A mustache that begins on the upper lip and whose whiskers are grown very long to extend down each side of the mouth down to the to jaw. The areas just past the corners of the mouth are shaven, thus differentiating this style from the “horseshoe” (see below).

fu manchu mustache

Handlebar
A handlebar mustache can be worn large or small (”petit handlebar”); it is characterized by the fact that it is bushy and must be worn long enough to curl the ends upward, which is usually achieved with styling wax.

handlebar mustache

Horseshoe
A full moustache with vertical extensions grown on the corners of the lips and down the sides of the mouth to the jawline, resembling an upside-down horseshoe. The whiskers grown along the sides of the mouth in the horseshoe are sometimes referred to as “pipes.” Not to be confused with the “fu manchu” which is grown long from the upper lip only– the sides remain shaven in the fu manchu.

horseshoe mustache

Imperial
A large mustache growing from both the upper lip and cheeks, whiskers from the cheeks are styled pointing upward.

imperial mustache

Lampshade
A mustache similar to the “painter’s brush,” but with corners angled slightly, resembling the shape of a lampshade.

lampshade mustache

Mouthbrow
See “pencil.”

Painter’s brush
A thick mustache covering the width of the mouth, usually worn short, with slightly rounded corners.

painter's brush mustache

Pencil
A thin, narrow, closely clipped mustache that outlines the upper lip. Pencil style mustaches can be trimmed in different manners (see below). Also sometimes called a “mouthbrow.”

pencil mustaches

Pyramidal
A general name for mustaches shaped narrow on top and wide on the bottom, like a pyramid. Pyramidal mustaches can be shaped in a variety of ways, as shown below.

pyramidal mustaches

Toothbrush
A thick mustache, shaved to be about an inch wide in the center.

toothbrush mustache

Walrus
A large, bushy, droopy mustache that hangs down over the lips, often entirely covering the mouth.

Talking Heads was an American New Wave band formed in 1974 in New York City and active until 1991. The band comprised David Byrne, Chris Frantz, Tina Weymouth and Jerry Harrison. Auxiliary musicians also frequently made appearances in concert and on the group’s albums.

The avant-garde musical style of Talking Heads combined elements of punk rock, new wave, pop, funk, world music and art rock. Front man and songwriter David Byrne contributed whimsical, esoteric lyrics to the band’s songs, and emphasized their showmanship through various multimedia projects and performances. Critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine describes Talking Heads as being “one of the most critically acclaimed bands of the ’80s, while managing to earn several pop hits.”

In 2002, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Four of the band’s albums appeared on Rolling Stone magazine’s 2003 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, and the Channel 4 100 Greatest Albums poll listed one album (Fear of Music) at number 76. Their concert film Stop Making Sense is widely regarded as one of the finest examples of the genre.

Prowling the internet for something to read today I stumbled onto something pretty cool. It’s called ‘Sanza Hanza’ which means ‘King Surfer’ and is a photozine and upcoming mini documentary. Basically there is a crew of kids called V.I.R.U.S (see title for meaning) from Soweto, South Africa’s largest ghetto. Whilst dealing with the pressures of being impoverished and not representative of the western views of SA they are also a fucking insane bunch of daredevils! What benefits do they get from doing this - I don’t know and frankly I don’t give a shit, what matters is that they do it and it’s fucking badass!
‘TUPAC’
TUPAC, a young Train Surfer, hangs from the side of a train, practicing his moves on the way to school. South Africa, 2007.

Peep teasers from the movie at the STREET CARNAGE BLOG. If you want to order the photozine and can part with your hard earned 4 pound sterling then it’s available to buy as well.

I might even see if i can catch the tide on the way to B-town this weekend, just need to figure how I’ll open the doors to get outside the trizzzain…. and on that note.

SIck new Blog for those who love to scour the depths to find that old school clip…

“During a time where immediate answers can be found at a glance on Google or search on Wikipedia, digging is downloadable and footage is as findable as a peruse on YouTube, it’s difficult to find an active Hip-Hop head who cares to be a fan of this culture for their own reasons outside of past times and popularity.

The Meaning Of Dope looks to stand as a respectable ground hosting some of this culture’s past prize moments and memories, spanning from videotaped classics to street team S.W.A.G., and from personal stories as active fans experiencing Hip-Hop’s “Golden Era”, to posting mix-tapes from a time when they needed to meet two criteria - mixing, and being on tape.

We pride ourselves on putting young cats onto shit they’re guaranteed to have never seen live, and giving some nostalgic sparks to the older heads who feel that time has spoiled their art.

We Welcome Ya’ll to The Meaning Of Dope.”

Lysergic acid diethylamide, LSD, LSD-25, or acid,
September 17, 2008, 3:21 pm
Filed under: Celebrating life, Death, Distant Lands, Man's Got To Eat, Pain

Is a semisynthetic psychedelic drug of the ergoline family. Its unusual psychological effects, which include visuals of colored patterns behind the eyes, a sense of time distorting, crawling geometric patterns, and the loss of the user’s sense of identity has made it one of the most widely known psychedelic drugs. It has been used mainly as a recreational drug, an entheogen, and a tool to supplement various practices for transcendence, including in meditation, psychonautics, art projects, and illicit, formerly legal psychedelic therapy.

It is synthesized from lysergic acid derived from ergot, a grain fungus that typically grows on rye, and was first synthesized by Swisschemist Albert Hofmann. The short form LSD comes from its early code name LSD-25, which is an abbreviation for the German “Lysergsäure-diethylamid” followed by a sequential number.[1][2]

LSD is sensitive to oxygen, ultraviolet light, and chlorine, especially in solution, though its potency may last for years if it is stored away from light and moisture at low temperature. In pure form it is colorless, odorless, and mildly bitter.[2]

LSD is typically delivered orally, usually on a substrate such as absorbent blotter paper, a sugar cube, or gelatin. In its liquid form, it can be administered by intramuscular or intravenous injection. The threshold dosage level needed to cause a psychoactive effect on humans is between 20 and 30 µg (micrograms).

Introduced by Sandoz Laboratories as a drug with various psychiatric uses, LSD quickly became a therapeutic agent that appeared to show great promise. However, the extra-medicinal use of the drug in Western society during the mid-twentieth century led to a political firestorm that resulted in the banning of the substance.[3] A number of organizations—including the Beckley Foundation, MAPS, Heffter Research Institute and the Albert Hofmann Foundation—exist to fund, encourage and coordinate research into its medicinal uses.[4]

P.s Acid is still tres bad and also in hindsight funny as funk. Thanks Wikipedia your the best!

Girl Talk - New Album “Feed The Animals”
September 14, 2008, 5:11 pm

Girl Talk, aka Gregg Gillis, a former bio-mechanical engineer from Pittsburg, has put a new record, and done a bit of a Radiohead by giving it away for whatever you want to pay. It would be kinda tricky to actually put it out since Girl Talk’s music is essentially 15 samples per song, none licenced and all reasonably well known. His is a kinda Diplo style thing where he lines up some B-More or krunked out filth over something entirely incongrouous, like a piece of 90s alt rock, or some pop hit (Come On Eileen anyone?).

The first album I heard of his was the supreme Night Ripper, which was actually available in the peerless Rounder Records for a couple of weeks. I totally wore that out playing it, so when a CDR with Girl Talk scrawled on it in biro plopped into my lap, I dropped it into my player immediately, and….. WOW. So much filthier, more Baltimore, and yet so much delicious pop in there too. Amazing. Its not gonna cost you anything - get over to ILLEGAL ART (the label that puts Girl Talk out) and download a paaaaaarrrrtaaaaaayyyy.

Check this track - not even the best track, but the only one I could find de nada. Set It Off

Just found this one too - peep the Nirvana sample - legend. In Step

In the beginning…

Early in 1984, Nike was a struggling shoe company. The running shoe phenomenon that has fueled their sales in previous years was slowly dying and they needed a way to revitalize and reinvent themselves in order to appeal to another segment of the market. At the same time, rookie player Michael Jordan was already endorsing several products, but Nike hoped that his appeal would generate sales. Jordan, though, had other ideas. He had always preferred Adidas or the Converse shoes endorsed by North Carolina Coach, Dean Smith, and hoped to sign on with either company. Converse, with Larry Bird and Magic Johnson on board as spokesmen, were not interested in offering a better deal than Nike, and Adidas wasn’t interested at all at the time; perhaps due to Kathe Dassler’s death the same year. While Jordan, himself, did not initially see the significance of Nike’s offer, his agent, David Falk, saw a golden opportunity in Nike’s offer to create a new line of shoes called “Air Jordans.” and urged him to give Nike a chance.

The Shoes Changed the World

Air Jordan shoes have consistently been among the best selling basketball shoes since their creation in 1985. The Jordan brand is a household name and people of all ages and social strata line up eagerly for the release of the latest model. Some of this success can be attributed to the fact that the shoes, from the Jordan III to the most recent model, have always started with their namesake, Michael Jordan. The designers take his ideas, hobbies, and life into account and incorporate these feelings into the shoes. A number of Jordans have been designed after Jordan’s cars and some of the more recent models, like the Jordan XXI (Jordan 21) on the way, some wonder when the Air Jordan line will be retired while others speculate that, in honor of the man, the last Air Jordan will be the Jordan XXIII (Jordan 23). No matter what happens to the signature Air Jordan line, it’s a good bet that the brand and its tradition of quality, high-fashion basketball and athletic shoes will continue long after Air Jordans have retired.
